Like the Brio, it supports 1080p 30fps and 60fps for low-bandwidth connections and streaming. Its cylindrical all-metal body with magnetic mounts and lens cap feels superior to competitors and makes a nice change from typical webcams, and allows the webcamвЂ™s multi-element lens to deliver excellent distortion-corrected views. Like the Logitech Brio, DellвЂ™s 4K UltraSharp Webcam lets you zoom in on your face with less degradation than the 1080p model, and itвЂ™s a respectable webcam for streaming or a quick and easy option for shooting 4K video straight to your computer. And itвЂ™s actually useful if youвЂ™re using it on top of your laptop, since the way most people use their laptop cameras, itвЂ™s just below their eye line. Since itвЂ™s so tall you might not want to mount it on top of a large monitor, although IвЂ™ve placed it on top of a 32вЂі monitor without a problem. You can change the aperture, but this setting doesnвЂ™t seem to do anything on any webcam IвЂ™ve tested so far. The latter wouldnвЂ™t be much of a problem if the utility had some image controls, but Obsbot relies entirely on the Windows Settings dialog, and even then it only supports white balance and exposure. While the auto white balance and exposure work well, it doesnвЂ™t handle low light as well as the cheaper Anker, which can also do 1080p at 60fps (Tiny is limited to 30fps).

And since itвЂ™s 1080p, the 2x digital zoom doesnвЂ™t look great. In the software, you can zoom continuously between 1x and 2x, but the gesture control only takes you in or out, while 1.5x is probably your best overall option. There are some aspects that I donвЂ™t like very much. It has all the basics covered too, including strong video quality and a surprisingly good microphone (although it lacks features you might use from a laptop or headphone mic, like noise canceling), plus a lightweight utility for position control. You can zoom in digitally, but as with any 1080p webcam, that gets ugly fast. It also has a 110-degree field of view, which is kind of wide for your usual web conferencing. Other price tradeoffs: a restricted USB-A cable and a non-removable stand. The Nexigo includes the typical loose cap. The design feels what youвЂ™d expect from a cheap webcam, is flexible but not brittle, and the stand supports tilt and swivel. The microphone does noise canceling, but you canвЂ™t turn it off or adjust it, and I heard a lot of popping and buzzing from my end. It has a built-in microphone, although the sound is disappointing.

It doesnвЂ™t currently work with macOS Monterey, so I havenвЂ™t been able to test this out, but the company is promising an update to support the latest version of the OS within the next couple of months. It also allows you to save presets for all adjustable settings. For example, manual white balance actually works well along a continuum rather than just giving you a choice between very pink or very green. The Nexigo software isnвЂ™t pretty, but some of them are a lot more functional than what IвЂ™ve used. Having been reduced to the size of a typical laptop display, it looks fine. There you can see noise and smoothness, although itвЂ™s no worse than most 1080p webcams under $100.

ThereвЂ™s not much you can do with image quality on a basic 1080p 30fps webcam, but the Nexigo still offers better video quality than many 720p portable webcams, with relatively stable white balance and auto exposure, even in light conditions. (ItвЂ™s Creative Live Cam Sync 1080p V2, which remains a good option for Windows at an attractive price of $35-40.) It also supports Macs, which is something the camera doesnвЂ™t replace. But I was totally surprised at how good this basic webcam was for just $40, and a lot of it has to do with the software. I had my doubts about this at first: There are many unfamiliar small brands on Amazon that require more than 4 stars to pique my interest.
